A Message from the Principal

Located in East Lakeview, Nettelhorst School is a Chicago Public School (CPS) Fine and Performing Arts magnet cluster school. We strongly emphasize an enhanced, interdisciplinary curriculum that cultivates independence, self-discipline, and a disposition for lifelong learning. We recognize that each child is unique and tailor instruction to meet individual needs.

Building a community is important to us. We stand firmly behind our school expectations:
  • Take care of yourself
  • Take care of others
  • Take care of our environment.
Through these expectations, we build moral character and a sense of community that begins in the classroom, weaves throughout the school, and extends beyond our building walls. Nettelhorst School values the partnership between home and school and encourages parents to participate in all aspects of their child's education—from preschool through the eighth grade.

Our school is a snapshot of this country in a building of over 600 students. Each day, we are tasked with creating an inclusive environment that celebrates and honors all of these differences. Our mission is to educate, support, and prepare our students for success.
