A Message from the Principal

Welcome to Mary Lyon School!

At Mary Lyon, we are dedicated to nurturing the whole child and preparing each student for college, future career paths, and the challenges of the 21st century. As a collaborative school community, we work together to inspire and motivate our students to reach their full potential. Our goal is to provide opportunities for students to explore subjects that ignite their curiosity, develop advanced research and communication skills, and unlock their creative, problem-solving, and analytical potential—all while fostering teamwork, collaboration, and a joyful daily learning experience.

The faculty and staff at Mary Lyon are committed to delivering rigorous, grade-level instruction every day. We aim to build our students’ confidence, enhance their social-emotional skills, and equip them with essential time management and study techniques to ensure they are well-prepared for college and career success.

Our students inspire us daily with their curiosity and dedication. To support their growth, we offer a variety of enrichment programs, including orchestra, band, athletics, art, gardening, STEAM, Second Step, a school musical, and library services. These activities are designed to develop the whole child and provide a well-rounded educational experience. Mary Lyon students take pride in being “The Lions!” and live by our R.O.A.R.S. values: Respectful, Organized, Accountable, Responsible, and Safe.

Mary Lyon School is proud to be part of CPS Network 3 and to serve the vibrant Belmont Cragin community. Together, we strive to create an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This year, we are especially excited to celebrate 100 years of educating Chicago’s children in the Belmont Cragin community. Join us as we honor this milestone and continue building a bright future for our Mary Lyon Lions!
