A Message from the Principal

A Message from the Principal

Greetings All, As the proud principal of Eugene Field, I am extremely honored to share important information that gives insight as to who we are as a school community. Eugene Field’s mission is centered around providing a high quality, culturally responsive education to support our students in a 21st century society. Our “North Star” of where we want to go, resides in our vision of “personalizing learning experiences for EVERY student to empower them to be successful” which aligns with our District’s vision, “Success Starts Here”. To this point, I’ll provide a glimpse into our curriculum, programming and partnerships. As we continue to evolve within CPS, it is our hope that we bring engaging programming and learning experiences that are equitable, rigorous and joyful for all of our students. We are a Personalized Learning school with a focus on Learner Profiles, student led/student-teacher academic conferences and individualized learning plans (choice menus) infused throughout all content area learning. Students' learner profiles are used to document the interests of students as well as their instructional/SEL goals. This is a key piece of information teachers can access when planning for instruction/SEL activities. We also believe in students being academic advocates for themselves, which is actualized through student/teacher conferences (occurs after progress reports) as well as student-led conferences (occurs during Report Card pick-ups). Our “North Star” as a Personalized Learning school resides in our POG–portrait of a graduate. As we integrate POG with Restorative Practices throughout students’ daily experiences, it’s our hope our students matriculate into high school with stronger communication skills, the ability to advocate and have ownership of their learning, read and write effectively, think critically, and lastly, are more self-aware with a growth mindset. As we focus on providing equitable, rigorous learning experiences, we know this cannot be done without a high-quality curriculum. To this end, we have adopted the Skyline curriculum. We utilize Skyline for ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies. We have three full time holistic teachers–P.E., Music, and Computer Science. Due to the size of our school, these full-time teachers are also able to support our students in other content area classes as well as provide MTSS Tier I and Tier II support, where needed. Our classroom sizes are typically smaller than the average school (m
