Dixon Elementary School houses pre-kindergarten through eighth grades with a total population of 500 students, with 99% of the students being African American.  The school has a functioning Dell computer lab, Chrome book carts for all classrooms (1 to 1), a science lab, and a learning resource center.  These labs are in place because Dixon is a mathematics and science magnet cluster school with an emphasis on fine arts, literacy, and technology.

Students at Dixon also have other interests, talents, and needs in addition to major subjects studied at school.  Participation in extracurricular activities enhances natural abilities, broadens knowledge and interests, and provides opportunities to excel in other arenas.  This is why we have various activities that range from boys' and girls' sports to a drama club, a greenhouse where students grow different vegetables and flowers, sewing, and even a program on how to become a veterinarian.

Dixon stresses culture to its students. The school has been recognized as an exhibit due to the many African sculptures, artifacts, and paintings that are exhibited throughout the building.  The three floors have themes based on the artifacts and portraits on the wall.  We also host an annual African American bazaar Cultural Connections, which is held the second weekend in March.  This bazaar host vendors from around the country, where they are able to showcase their African artifacts that differ from paintings, sculptures, mask, and clothing.
