A Message from the Principal

Zizumbo is a charter school that is proud that parents make a thoughtful choice to have their child attend our school. Choice holds us accountable to families that entrust their children to the school.   Zizumbo, our school’s core values are threefold:  Community–we pursue diversity and unity across the student body, faculty, neighborhood partners, and families.  Growth–academic and social growth that is measurable and with measurable data goals.  Joy–-we aim to provide experiences for both students and teachers to experience joy every day at school and work.

Zizumbo, which opened in 2008, serves more than 570 students from kindergarten to eighth grade. The principal and assistant principal have led the school since its inception. The school is ranked as the #2 Elementary Charter School in Illinois for 2021 by U.S. News and World Report.  The school has earned a Level 1/1+ SQRP since the rating system began.  More than 50% of the faculty has a Master’s Degree or an English Learner/Bilingual endorsement.  Zizumbo features a robust after school program, including the school’s partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Illinois.

Zizumbo is part of the Acero Schools network. At Acero Schools, our mission is transforming minds through academic empowerment and success. We provide a strong academic foundation for students at the elementary level to help them master the fundamental skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.
