Access to Postsecondary Opportunities

This data reports how well schools are preparing students for life beyond high school. The district supports each student in exploring college and career options by offering programs in 6th-12th grade preparation, culminating in the Learn.Plan.Succeed (LPS) and Financial Aid graduation requirements.

Why This Is Measured

A well-prepared student is more likely to succeed in their postsecondary path; a critical step in supporting their long-term economic and personal growth. This metric looks at how schools help students build skills for their future, including college and career readiness courses, advanced coursework, exposure opportunities, and lessons on readiness, access, and success for all postsecondary pathways. By setting up these support systems, the district aims to ensure that every student has a meaningful plan and is set up for success on whichever path they choose after graduation.

What Does This Measure

This measures how effectively schools are preparing students for postsecondary opportunities, including college, trade programs, and career opportunities. It reflects the alignment between high school education and students' future goals, evaluating areas such as college acceptance rates, participation in advanced courses (Dual Credit/Dual Enrollment, AP and IB), College and Career Pathway Endorsement programs, JROTC, career readiness, certification programs, and access to postsecondary advising.

Questions to Ask Your School

  • How are students supported in the college application and financial aid process?
  • Are there dual-credit or vocational training options available, and how many students participate?
  • What partnerships does the school have with colleges, trade schools, or local businesses to support postsecondary readiness?
  • How does the school progress monitor and improve students' preparedness for life beyond high school?
  • How does the District support improvement in this area?
