Healthy CPS for Staff
Healthy CPS streamlines state and district health and wellness policies into four badges: Health Leadership, Health Instruction, Healthy Environments, and Health Services.
Health Leadership
The Health Leadership Badge measures whether staff is appropriately trained to support the health and wellness of all students.
Health Instruction
The Health Instruction Badge measures whether schools provide adequate instruction for nutrition education, physical education, health education, and sexual health education.
Healthy Environments
The Healthy Environments Badge measures whether schools foster environments that support the health and wellness of students.
Health Services
The Health Services Badge measures whether schools are providing student access to healthcare services that impact learning.
Get Involved with Health CPS
Every staff member can play a role in Healthy CPS. Review the Healthy CPS Checklist for more details about each badge and to identify areas in which you can support your school's achievement. It is crucial that all staff are on board with Healthy CPS to advance health and wellness efforts in the school, support the health and well-being of all students, and eliminate health-related barriers to learning.
For more detailed information and instructional supports, visit the OSHW Employee Intranet Page (a CPS email is required to access the Employee Intranet).
District Policies
Healthy CPS covers state and district health and wellness policies. For detailed information about each policy, review the CPS Policy Handbook. Relevant health and wellness policies for administration include:
- Local School Wellness Policy [updated SY22-23]
- Sexual Health Education Policy [updated SY22-23]
- Chronic Conditions Management Policy [updated SY22-23]
- Administration of Medication Policy
Mandatory Trainings
To comply with CPS Policy and State Law, school staff are required to complete several health-related trainings. All school staff must complete the Chronic Conditions and Safe and Supportive Environments trainings in Safe Schools and LearningHub. Administration can identify which staff have completed these trainings and ensure staff not in compliance complete the required trainings by their deadlines. Learn more by viewing the Accessing SafeSchools Reporting instructions. Additional trainings are required if you are designated as a Delegated Care Aide or Seizure Care Aide, and if you volunteer to be a Sexual Health Instructor or Medicaid Designee.
Mandatory Healthy CPS Roles
Achieving Healthy CPS requires staff dedication to health and wellness. In order to adhere to health and wellness policies and create a culture of health and wellness, certain Healthy CPS roles are required to be present in the school.
Instructional Requirements
Healthy CPS covers health and wellness instructional requirements that are mandated by State Law and CPS Policy. For additional information and resources, visit the OSHW Employee Intranet page (a CPS email is required to access the Employee Intranet).

Supporting Students with Chronic Conditions
School staff play an important role in supporting students with Chronic Conditions. Completing the annual Chronic Conditions Training (hosted on SafeSchools) will prepare you to act in an emergency situation and create a safe environment for the student to learn. Visit the Chronic Conditions Employee Intranet page for more information.
Health Services Available to Students
To ensure a sustainable culture of health and wellness at school, Healthy CPS provides health services that support the whole child. The following resources are available to students. For more information or questions, please email OSHW@cps.edu.
Clerk Resources
School clerks are pivotal to the successful day-to-day operations of the school. They work very closely with school administration to process information from the district and assist in implementing any new programs and policies with fidelity. Each school year, clerks are essential to the processing of transfer students by collecting and confirming that all student health and enrollment forms are submitted.
They can also serve as connectors to services like their Children and Family Benefits Unit (CFBU) coordinator for health and social service benefits. Clerk knowledge of student and staff needs and requirements plays an important role in creating a sustainable culture of health and wellness and supporting Healthy CPS achievement. For more information on available Clerk resources, email ClerkCommunity@cps.edu.
Subscribe to the Healthy CPS Digest
The Healthy CPS Digest is a newsletter dedicated to CPS Health and Wellness updates, resources, and programming/training opportunities that advance Healthy CPS efforts.
Working with Community Partners
Partners are a great way to support the health & wellness initiatives at your school. In order to receive credit for health content taught by a community partner, they must be a vendor and approved by the OSHW Material Review Committee (MRC). For more information about the MRC, please email OSHW@cps.edu.
