The Role of Team Director The Team Director is a full-time teacher with a track record of strong practice who seeks to expand impact. The Team Director is partially released from the classroom to lead a team of teachers. Typical responsibilities include creating and implementing learning cycles and providing consistent coaching to team members. Team Directors are typically released from teaching 3-5 hours per week.
During SY25, the Team Director role is available in the following schools: Team Director School List. Principals determine whether the Team Director role is a good fit for their school.
Team Directors:
- Serve as a member of the ILT
- Lead logically assembled team(s) of 2-6 teachers to impact the instructional core Are provided, at a minimum, 30 minutes of leadership released time weekly per teacher they support
- Provide 1:1 connective coaching to team members
- Attend all district-sponsored professional learning specific to the role
- Attend monthly 1:1 check-ins with a Distributed & Supportive Leadership Specialist or Lead ILT member
Eligibility
The Team Director must possess the following qualifications to be eligible for the role:
- A valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education
- Team Directors starting this role after June 30, 2024, must be a teacher of record.
- Team Directors who are recertifying their eligibility for SY25 are excluded from this requirement
- Experience in CPS (minimum 3 years of teaching). 5+ years of professional experience is strongly preferred
- Experience leading peers/adults effectively (informally or formally)
- Actions and words reflect a commitment to equity and a belief that all students and adults are capable of growth
- Most recent REACH Professional Practice rating of Proficient or better (Distinguished preferred) or most recent REACH Summative rating of 285 or more total points (340 or more preferred). REACH Summative ratings can be found on Reflect and Learn.
