SY26 New Teacher Cohort District-Based Mentor

The New Teacher Induction and Mentoring Team (NTIM) is seeking experienced educators to serve as district mentors for new teachers in the district’s New Teacher Cohort (NTC). The New Teacher Cohort aims to develop, retain, and sustain new teachers in service of ensuring equitable learning experiences across the district. Teachers new to the district, or new to the teaching profession, can register for the cohort. By registering for this cohort, they will receive monthly professional learning, as well as a district mentor. District-Based Mentors will be assigned to support new teachers from any school within the district.

Eligibility

  • Be a current, full-time teacher of record with a valid teaching license issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Have experience in CPS (minimum 3 years of teaching); 5+ years of professional experience is preferred.
  • CPS PreK-12 teacher who will be teaching at least one course to CPS students throughout SY25-26 preferred.
  • Have experience supporting peers/adults effectively (informally or formally).
  • Most recent REACH Professional Practice rating of Proficient or better (Distinguished preferred) or most recent REACH Summative rating of 285 or more total points (340 or more preferred). REACH Summative ratings can be found on Reflect and Learn.

How to Apply

Teachers who wish to apply to be a mentor in the New Teacher Cohort should complete the application that best matches their content expertise. Please complete all questions on the application. The application is broken into two sections: content-specific questions and mentor-specific questions. This application should take approximately 60 minutes to complete.

Selection Process & Next Steps

1) Application Review: All completed applications will be reviewed and scored.

2) Prioritization of Eligibility: Some content areas have a greater need for mentors. For this reason, those applicants may be prioritized to be named as mentors.

3) Notification of Selection: In collaboration with Central Office Content Teams, New Teacher Induction & Mentoring team will host interviews with selected applicants. Once interviews have concluded, selected mentors will be informed by early May and will receive subsequent calendar invites and materials.
