CPS Cooperating Teacher

A Cooperating Teacher in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) plays a crucial role as a leader and guide to a pre-service teacher, providing essential support, feedback, and real-world experience in the classroom. Grounded in CPS’s Equity-Framework, they model effective, culturally responsive teaching strategies that are aligned with CPS’s commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments. The cooperating teacher helps the pre-service teacher develop instructional and classroom management skills, with an emphasis on addressing the diverse needs of CPS students. By offering constructive feedback and facilitating opportunities to lead lessons and engage with students from all backgrounds, the cooperating teacher supports the pre-service teacher in reflecting on their practice, promoting educational equity, and applying theory to the unique challenges and opportunities within CPS schools.
