Planning Rationale
Intended to house lawn mowers and snow plowing equipment, sand, salt, etc, the yard storage room shall be a part of the building and only accessible from the exterior.
- The exterior door to the space shall be wide enough to accommodate large equipment such as a lawn mower and must be accessible by a wide sidewalk or drive. Include electrical conduit for future use. Although it is not a requirement that the exterior door be located far from the facilities main entrance, it is recommended that the door be discreetly located without interfering with student and visitor access.
- The space may be accessed from the interior of the building, however a masonry construction 4-hr rated separation and corresponding door assembly will be required. No fuel storage allowed. Recommend access from exterior only If possible.
- Stand Alone Storage Building: When the program dictates outdoor athletic facilities for a campus, a stand alone storage building for athletic equipment or other large format equipment that can not be accommodated within a building yard storage location. Shall be a ventilated temperature controlled environment constructed of masonry although may be may be manufactured structure if has necessary required fire separations.
- Elementary schools with the introduction of Pre-K could use a separate storage room with outward facing doors for tricycles or small pools.
