Kitchen Hoods
A Wet Chemical Extinguishing System is preferred for commercial Kitchen applications for Type 1 hoods only. These agents are considered to be nontoxic and noncarcinogenic. When wet chemical extinguishing agents are sprayed on a grease fire, they interact immediately with the grease, forming a blanket of foam over the surface on which they are sprayed. This creates a smothering and cooling effect on the fire.
Wet Chemical Systems
Wet Chemical Systems typically are pre-engineered systems, defined by pre-determined flow rates, nozzle pressures, and quantities of agent required. Wet chemicals are usually stored in cylinders adjacent to the hazard and are activated by either manual or automatic means. Automatic actuation is provided by either a fusible link or heat detector operation. Once the system is actuated, all sources of fuel and power to the equipment that produce heat are required to be shut down.
Shop Areas
Fire suppression systems for shop areas are to be designed based on the type of activities taking place within the space. Different systems must be considered for Auto Shops where oil and gasoline are in use, Wood Shops where there is a large density of combustible materials, among others. It is the responsibility of the EOR to determine the proper and Code compliant system to be used in each circumstance.
Server Rooms
Most CPS facilities do not require any special system for the room containing their Network Server, typically labeled the MDF Room.
