Fire Protection Drawings
Fire Protections plans shall be prepared for each project including Fire Protection scope of work. These drawings shall indicate the complete scope of work in order to allow for proper bidding by a Fire Protection Contractor. These plans shall include location of Fire Pump Room, estimated size of Fire Pump Assembly, schedule of Fire Pump and Jockey Pump, routing of main piping and branch piping. All locations, electrical requirements, tie ins to Fire Alarm System, and locations of all accessories required shall be on plans and fully coordinated with all trades.
Plans shall indicate at a minimum the Hazard Class, Flow Rate and Density for each space or group of spaces throughout the building. That may be done with text in each area, grouped with a polyline, or a legend using hatching or notations to indicate this. There may be instances where the location of sprinklers may need to be indicated for coordination purposes.
Main Routing and Standpipes
Fire protection piping mains shall be routed within accessible ceiling space, typically corridors or open ceiling spaces. Standpipes shall be located within protected stairwells, along with all associated zone control valving, system drain risers and other accessories.
Freeze Protection
No specialty freeze protection device or heat trace shall be used for the Fire Protection system, unless approved by CPS staff under rare circumstances. Any space that may be exposed to below freezing temperature shall be a dry-type system. Dry-type sprinklers (pendent or sidewall), supplied by the wet sprinkler system, may be used to protect areas subject to freezing such as vestibules or large walk-in coolers requiring sprinklers.
