The Contract Documents shall provide for a complete cabling infrastructure system for voice and data communications, consisting of workstation outlets, horizontal Category 6e for data and voice cabling, local concentrator enclosures, fiber optic backbone data cabling, Category 5e backbone voice cabling, four main distribution frame (MDF) racks, and voice and fiber optic terminations in the MDF room. The Contract Documents shall provide for two communications service entrance conduits (4”), one each for AT&T and Comcast from the respective property line with both service conduits continuing to the MDF room. The Contract Documents shall provide for voice outlets and a telephone line to elevators and utility meter reader outlets. CPS to coordinate with AT&T for the telephone dial tone. The School shall provide all computer and network hardware and software and telephone equipment and handsets. Wiring for the voice and data system shall be installed in its own conduit.

- These guidelines provide information to assist in the design of a Voice and Data System.
- The Voice and Data Systems are to be shown on the Electrical Drawings. Separate drawings (T) are not to be submitted.
- Scope of Work:
- The design professional shall show the voice/ data outlets and concentrator locations, the MDF or IDF Room, distribution rack locations, and telephone service entrance conduit locations. The design professional shall show riser diagrams and/or details to depict the conduit/cabling requirements for the Voice and Data System.
- The design professional shall include power distribution, branch circuit panelboards, branch circuiting, and receptacles for computers in classrooms, computer laboratories, administrative areas, and for the MDF racks

- Provide phone jacks at each electric and gas meter in accordance with ComEd Meter Department Guide 21, Automatic Meter Reading Equipment and Procedures.
- Provide one or two administrative stations (based on room size) in offices to include locations such as Guard Desk, Security, Campus Mgr., etc.
- Provide one phone jack at each Elevator, LULA, etc.
- Provide one Administrative location in each Storage Room which exceeds 100 square feet in size.
- Provide TV, Data and HDMI / USB locations in Auditorium, Gym, Natatorium & Cafeteria
- MDF Room:
- Provide a 4’x 8’ x 3/4” fire rated plywood backboard for telephone switch and voice cross-connect system termination blocks on three walls within the MDF.
- Provide four distribution racks with three vertical organizers for LAN/WAN equipment.
- Provide overhead cable tray for cabling within the MDF room above equipment racks, cable tray to be configured in a cross configuration anchored from each wall.
- Provide telephone and cable riser conduits from the service entrances to the MDF room.
- Provide a separate #6AWG ground wire from each equipment rack to the MDF ground bus.
- Equipment racks shall be bolted to the floor and secured to the cable tray.

- Provide a shared concentrator enclosure with the number of rooms serviced by this enclosure to be determined by physical layout of the school, but not to exceed five classrooms.
- The maximum number of data drops for an enclosure is 48. When a new enclosure is installed it should not exceed 40 drops, as this allows for 20% future expansion.
- Provide an concentrator for the administration center.
- Provide a concentrator for each library/resource center and computer laboratory.
- Provide a classroom concentrator for one isolated classroom.
- Verify that all concentrator boxes are clear for access at all times, with no building elements obstructing access doors from full opening.

- Provide one CAT6e cable from each voice outlet, automatic meter reader outlet, and elevator controller to the MDF room.

- Provide an outlet box with a CAT6e cable, terminated on a green jack for Kronos terminals at the following locations:
- MDF Room:
- Terminate the fiber optic cables in a lightguide shelf termination in distribution rack number #2.
- Terminate voice cables on a 110-type cross- connect system.
- For Additions/Annexes Only:
- Provide a 50 pair voice backbone cable and one RG-11coaxial cable in one 2” conduit between the MDF room and the new IDF. The 50 pair cable terminated in a 110 type cross-connect system at each end. The coaxial cable on a coaxial patch panel
- Provide two 6-strand OM4 fiber optic cables in 2” conduit between the new IDF room and the existing school’s MDF room or planned MDF room.
- Provide one conduit from new IDF to Intercom Headend in Main Building. Consult with Intercom manufacturer for conduit size, but 2” minimum
- Provide one 2” conduit as a spare, equipped with pull rope.

- All voice and data systems cabling shall be installed in its own conduit system. Conduit shall be 3/4” minimum size. Conduit shall be sized based on system requirements; layout and TIA/EIA 569A conduit fill table and 40% future capacity.

Power and Data shall not share a common conduit unless it is a divided metallic raceway.

- Provide one 4” (AT&T) and one 4” (Comcast) from the MDF room to the school property line at the point of telephone and cable services. Coordinate the locations with the AT&T and Comcast engineers for the school. Service shall be routed underground in PVC conduit, encased in concrete.
- All voice and data systems cabling shall be installed in its own conduit system. Conduit shall be 3/4” minimum size. Conduit shall be sized based on system requirements; layout and TIA/EIA 569A conduit fill table and 40% future capacity.

- Classrooms:
- Provide one 20 amp duplex technology receptacle for each student station, printer station, projector location and teacher’s station. Receptacles shall be limited to a maximum of six devices per circuit and solid grey in color.
- Computer Classroom:
- Provide one 20 amp duplex technology receptacle for each student station, printer station, projector location and teacher’s station. Receptacles shall be limited to a maximum of six devices per circuit and solid grey in color.
- Provide one 20 amp duplex technology receptacle on a dedicated circuit for each MFD / printer station.
- Administration Spaces:
- Provide one 20 amp duplex technology receptacle for each administrative station. Receptacles shall be limited to a maximum of six per circuit and grey in color.
- Provide one 20 amp duplex technology receptacle on a dedicated circuit for each printer station.
- MDF Room:
- Provide 20 amp duplex IG receptacles for each MDF vertical organizer as indicated on the drawings. Receptacles shall be limited to a maximum of six per circuit, shall be alternately wired and solid orange in color.
- Provide one 20-amp IG simplex receptacle on a dedicated circuit in the vertical organizer indicated on the drawings and solid orange in color.
- Concentrator Enclosures:
- Provide one 20-amp technology quadruplex receptacle on a dedicated circuit for each concentrator and solid grey in color.
- Branch Circuit Panelboards and Wiring:
- Branch circuits for the voice and data system (technology) receptacles shall contain individual neutral conductors for each circuit. Branch circuits for the voice and data system receptacles shall not serve other convenience outlets, lighting, motors, etc.
- Panelboards with voice and data system (technology) circuits shall contain a 200% neutral bus and bolt-on circuit breakers. Panelboards with voice and data system branch circuits shall not be permitted to supply other convenience outlets or lighting branch circuits. Large motor branch circuits should not be served from these panelboards.
- Feeders supplying panelboards with voice and data system circuits shall contain three phase conductors, sized in accordance with Code requirements and a 200% neutral conductor(s).
- A dedicated branch circuit panelboard shall be located in the MDF room to serve only the MDF equipment. Panel to be provided with SPD.
- Voice and Data Systems Power Distribution:
- The building switchboard and each distribution panelboard supplying branch circuit panelboards containing voice and data circuits shall be provided with a surge protection device.
- Where the building service voltage is 480Y/277, step-down transformers supplying panelboards with voice and data circuits shall have a minimum K-factor rating of 4.
