9.2.8 Digital Video Surveillance System (DVS)

Program Statement

The Contract Documents shall provide for raceways and cabling for video surveillance cameras. The cameras are to be supplied by the Contractor. Wiring for the DVS System shall be installed in its own conduit.

These guidelines provide information to assist in the design of the cabling infrastructure for a future Digital Video Surveillance System (DVS). Included are general requirements to facilitate a future DVS system for security monitoring and recording.
The future DVS system requires raceways and cabling to be placed on the Electrical Drawings. Separate drawings are not required.
Contractor Scope of Work:

Provide conduit, junction boxes, power, and cabling inside the school on drawings for future cameras.
Exterior power and cabling, mounting devices, and flexible cabling no greater than 3’-0” in length.
Provide junction boxes where future cameras will be located.
Licensing, programming, integration into VMS, and training.
Cameras and other devices

Provided by CPS:

DVS server.
IP addresses for each camera.

Coordinate and cross-reference related sections:

General Conditions and Division 1 Specifications.
Coordinate exterior lighting with camera locations and areas of security concern.
Interior and Exterior walk-thru with CPS Safety & Security for verification of all camera locations, with sign off, prior to electrical rough in.
Related Division 26 Sections.

Verify that all camera locations, views and full range-of-motion are unobstructed by other devices or Architectural items within the space.
Provide a junction box with cover located a minimum of 9’-0” above finished floor, or 6” below the ceiling, with raceway, and cabling to the MDF room from future locations to be included but not limited to:

Main entrance doors or lobbies
Main hallways on all floors
All Stairwells
MDF/IDF room
Cafeteria
Computer Classroom
Gymnatorium/Gymnasium
Toilet Room entrances
Locker Room entrances
Assembly Rooms
Library/Media Center
Swimming Pools
Auditorium

Provide a junction box with a weatherproof cover on the inside parapet wall of the roof, with raceway and cabling to the MDF room, to cover the areas listed below. Provide a 120-volt circuit in a weatherproof junction box adjacent to these DVS outlets for camera enclosure power, if required. Provide a minimum of four DVS locations to cover the following areas:

Parking lots
Alleys
Playgrounds
Courtyards
Trash Enclosures
All entrances
Main pick-up and drop-off locations
CTA Bus Stop (if applicable)
Athletic Facilities

DVS system cabling shall be Category 6e for a maximum distance of 295’ and served from an Concentrator Enclosure, MDF or IDF room. Leave 12” of slack at the DVS outlet junction box. Terminate the DVS cables on appropriate patch panels on the MDF/IDF or enclosure rack. Tag each end of cable. Where the cable distance will exceed 295’, consult with the Managing Architect/Engineer to determine a new route or the addition of a new concentrator enclosure.
Conduit shall be sized based on wiring and future camera locations (3/4” minimum).
Label all junction boxes “Future DVS”.
