Planning Rationale
The Chicago Public Schools elementary and high school promotion policies include a variety of measures to ensure that all students are prepared for the grade to which they are promoted. The physical environment of a school shall support the programmatic requirements, which might result in the need for a capital improvement project.
- The Capital Planning program template for new construction and renovation shall typically be prepared by design managers in coordination with CPS during pre-planning / planning phases to ensure that projects provide the necessary spaces to ensure students can obtain the appropriate subject credits that align with promotion requirements. The program is provided to the AOR as a guide for program confirmation and scope development.
- The school shall also be consulted on a regular basis by the design manager during the design phase to ensure that the design development does not impact a school’s ability to provide the necessary instruction for student promotion.
