Planning Rationale
The Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW) aims to eliminate health-related barriers to learning and advance health equity. CPS is committed to creating safe and healthy learning environments by offering access to daily physical activity, nutritious foods, school-based health services, health education and support for students with chronic conditions. Facility design can play an important part in creating and sustaining environments that support student health and wellness. New construction and renovation should consider design elements that promote the goals outlined by OSHW.
All students need a safe and supportive school environment to progress academically and developmentally. The Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Guidelines outline how to support gender expansive students, including providing access to appropriate facilities. Additionally, the CPS Supporting Gender Diversity Toolkit, created for students, staff, and parents, can be used as a resource for CPS protocol.
