Curie HS Students Curate Virtual Art Exhibit to Explore Self-Love and Self-Care

29 April 2021

As part of a partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 23 students worked together on a multitude of creative art projects.

A collage of art work

When you’re initially transported to Self-Care is Self-Lovea virtual art exhibition created by Curie High School students, you might think you’re simply staring at a blue box. But once you enter the door, you become immersed in a multitude of art projects meant to help remind you of the importance of self-care.

Turn one way, to a purple room, to look at vision boards—creative collages that symbolize how students take care of their mind, body, and soul. Go the other way, to a pink room, to engage with scores, which are written, drawn, or verbalized instructions to help you learn to love yourself more.

In between these two rooms, there are others filled with photographs, short videos, and paintings to inspire you. There’s even a playlist to put you in the right mood.

As part of a partnership with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, students worked together in teams to create artwork, design the exhibition, and develop publicity campaigns. They received guidance from Ms. Valerie Xanos, their teacher, and Mr. Andres Hernandez, an artist-in-residence provided through the partnership.

Hear from five Curie students below to learn more about how to maximize your time in the space they have created especially for you.
