Celebrating Our Counselors: National School Counseling Week 2020
05 February 2020
February 3 begins National School Counseling Week. A celebration of school counselors for the hard work they do every day.
February 3 begins National School Counseling Week—a chance for us to reflect on the amazing work of our counselors and thank them for all they do to help our students thrive.
Our counselors wear many hats, sometimes all in the same day. They keep our students on track academically, which has contributed to our district’s record-high graduation rate. They also create safe, supportive learning environments where students feel respected and valued, which has led to a significant reduction in disciplinary issues and a record-low dropout rate. In addition, their laser focus on post-secondary planning has resulted in thousands of CPS students leaving high school with college and career credentials already in their pocket and more than $1 billion annually in scholarships to help them manage the cost of a college education.
None of the incredible gains our students have made in the past several years would have been possible without the work of our school counselors. So these next few days, as we highlight counselors throughout the district in celebration of National School Counseling Week, we hope you will take the time to thank your child’s counselor for being a guiding light in their lives and for showing them that just like at home, there are caring adults in their schools who know what they need and will stop at nothing to help them achieve their dreams.
Sincerely,
