The number of students who live in the Greater Stony Island region has decreased by 1398 students (6.1%) since 2020-2021, which is more than the 5.1% citywide decline. The K-8th grade population has decreased by 9.2% (more than the 9.0% decrease in total CPS K-8th grade student enrollment) and the 9th-12th grade population has decreased by 5.7% (more than the 3.1% decrease in total CPS 9th-12th grade student enrollment).

The number of students enrolled in the region has decreased by 1,164 students (6.5%), which is more than the student population decline in the district. For the past four years, there have been fewer students enrolled in the region than living in the region. K-8 enrollment in the region has decreased by 8.5% and 9-12 enrollment has decreased by 8.8%.

In the Greater Stony Island region, there are 1,270 Pre-K Seats, 84% of which are in full-day programs and 16% in half-day programs.

In the Greater Stony Island region, there were 839 students enrolled in Pre-K as of the 20th day of school (September 18th, 2023), 85% of which were in a full-day program. 83% of Pre-K students were 4-year-olds, while 17% were 3-year-olds. Pre-K students continue to enroll over the course of the school year.

There were 431 unfilled Pre-K seats in the Greater Stony Island region as of the 20th day of school (September 18th, 2023), 354 of which were full-day seats. 4-Year-Old Enrollment Over Time

In 2023-24, there was a 2.9% decrease in enrollment (20 students) of 4-year-olds in full-day Pre-K programs in the Greater Stony Island region. In 2020-21, the district experienced a sharp decline in Pre-K enrollment, consistent with a nationwide decrease in Pre-K enrollment.

The proportion of Pre-K students identifying as Black is 90% compared to 90% of Kindergarten students, while the proportion of Pre-K students identifying as Latinx is 6% compared to 8% of Kindergarten students.
