We offer a range of services and supports to help families of students with disabilities navigate special education and ensure their children have a free and appropriate public education that meets their unique needs and prepares them for employment, further education, and independent living.

The OSD Family Advisory Board

The OSD Family Advisory Board (formerly known as OSD Parent Advisory Council) is a community of families with diverse learner students who have a shared interest in collaborating with OSD to support students by enhancing special education support and services.

The Family Advisory Board meets monthly with OSD to discuss issues with students with disabilities and provide input on policy, training, and special education programming.

All Family Advisory Board meetings are held monthly and are open to the general public. Meetings are recorded. To access our registration form and be notified about upcoming FAB meetings, join our mailing list.

OSD Parent University

Parent University meetings are held monthly and are open to the general public. Meetings are recorded. These meetings provide empowering learning experiences to the parents/guardians of children with disabilities to help them support their child’s academic success, further their own education, and promote advocacy for their diverse learner.

Parent Universities offer parents, guardians, and community members access to learning experiences on a broad array of topics at CPS school sites across the city.  These training sessions are offered at no cost. Past topics include an overview of the Individualized Education Program (IEP), executive functioning, compensatory education, and other special education related topics.
