Why This Is Measured
These activities help students grow by giving them access to a well-rounded education beyond regular class time. The district is committed to funding and expanding these programs to ensure all students have equal access to enrichment opportunities that support their academic, social, and personal development year-round.

Funding Models
Sustainable Community Schools: The Sustainable Community Schools Model is a partnership with CPS and CTU, where each school collaborates with a Lead Partner Agency. SCS funding supports full-time roles, including an SCS Coordinator, Parent Coordinator, and Restorative Justice Coordinator, as well as before- and after-school programs, summer activities, authentic parent engagement, professional development, educational field trips, and essential technology and supplies.
Community Schools Initiative (CSI): The Community Schools Initiative, funded by the 21stCCLC ISBE grant, pairs each school with a Lead Partner Agency. The grant supports a full-time CSI Coordinator, before- and after-school programs, summer activities, monthly parent engagement opportunities, as well as supplies and educational field trips.
Full Service Community Schools (FSCS): The Full Service Community Schools program, funded by a federal grant, partners each school with a Lead Partner Agency. FSCS funding supports a full-time FSCS Coordinator, before- and after-school programs, summer activities, parent engagement opportunities, mentoring, community workshops, supplies, and educational field trips.
Community Schools Initiative External (CSIx): The Community Schools Initiative External, funded by the 21stCCLC ISBE grant, involves CPS as a co-applicant, with an external organization serving as the fiscal agent and directly implementing programs. The grant supports before- and after-school programs and parent programs.
Student Engagement Programs: Student Engagement programs, supported by local funds, are organized and run schools used to pay staff and/or community partners. The grant supports before- and after-school programs, summer programming, supplies, and educational field trips for students. Note that the base amount for schools is relatively stable from year to year. In cases where additional funding is available, schools were able to request additional funding beyond their base amount.
This is the amount of funds awarded to the school over a period of time for out of school time/extracurricular programs.
