Chicago Public Schools Announces New Chief of Schools for Network 6

Netterstrom Has Led Schools and School Systems for Close to Two Decades
CHICAGO— The Chicago Board of Education Thursday approved the appointment of Dr. Ethan Netterstrom to serve as Chief of Network 6 schools. Network 6 is an elementary school network on the city’s Southwest side that manages 23 schools, serving about 11,500 students.
Netterstrom has held a variety of educational leadership roles both in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and Madison Metropolitan School District for close to two decades. Netterstrom previously served as the Deputy Chief of Schools for Network 7 schools. Prior to that role, Netterstrom was the Executive Director of School Support at Chicago Public Schools. In that role, Netterstrom oversaw more than 80 schools that were responsible for about 49,000 students in what is called the Independent School Principals Network.
Netterstrom was the founding principal of Skinner North. In 2016, in collaboration with Dr. Katie Magnuson, Skinner North earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon Schools designation.
Netterstrom earned a doctorate in urban educational leadership from the University of Illinois Chicago, a master of arts in secondary education and English from Roosevelt University, and a bachelor of arts in English and history from Northern Illinois University.
“Dr. Netterstrom has a long track record of dedication to Chicago students,” said Felicia Sanders, Chief Schools Officer. “Dr. Netterstrom’s diverse range of leadership experience will yield extraordinary outcomes for the students, school leaders, staff, and school communities of Network 6.”
Netterstrom lives in Portage Park with his wife, Leanne, who is an educator at North Grand High School. He has five children, three of whom live in Chicago and attend CPS schools.
