Get Ready! School Starts ONE WEEK from Today!

Dear CPS Families, 

Our students may not be ready to say goodbye to summer, but CPS is fully ready to welcome them back to school beginning Monday, August 26!

Our Facilities Team has been hard at work making sure schools are in great shape for the first day, and our educators are now back in their buildings getting classrooms ready to welcome students back. In addition, hundreds of Safe Passage Workers will help see students safely to and from school on the first day—Monday, August 26—and every day after that!

Getting Ready for a Great First Day 

Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare for the first day of school:

• Check with your school to confirm what time the school day starts and ends this year.
• Remember that free breakfast and lunch will be available to all students on the first day and every day
• Take advantage of free rides on the CTA and Metra that are available to all CPS students and accompanying adults on the first day

Keeping School Communities Healthy and Safe

We need your help to keep our students and staff in good health this school year. This starts with making sure your kids are in compliance with our District’s minimum health requirements, including all physical exams and federally required vaccines. If you have health questions, or need help getting your children enrolled in benefits, please call the Healthy CPS Hotline at (773) 553-KIDS (5437).  

Regarding our response to COVID-19, CPS has now updated our policies to align with current health guidelines, which categorizes COVID alongside FLU and RSV under the broader umbrella of respiratory illnesses. Students who test positive for any of these illnesses should stay home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, and until overall symptoms are improving.

The CPS Office of Student Health and Wellness (OSHW) will continue to lead the district's efforts in all disease investigation, prevention, response, and control. Please visit our Respiratory Illness Guidance web page for helpful information on ways to manage these illnesses and keep your family safe.

Managing Events in Chicago This Week

As you are likely aware, Chicago is hosting the Democratic National Convention (DNC) from today through Thursday, August 22. Please review this resource for helpful information on navigating the city during this time, as well as talking about this event with students.

Estimadas familias de las CPS: 

Nuestros estudiantes pueden no estar listos para despedirse del verano, pero las CPS están más que listas para darle la bienvenida de vuelta a la escuela, ¡el lunes, 26 de agosto!

Nuestro equipo de instalaciones ha estado trabajando duro para asegurar que las escuelas estén en buen estado el primer día, y nuestros educadores están de vuelta en sus edificios listos para darle la bienvenida a los estudiantes. Cómo prepararse para un fantástico primer día

Aquí hay algunas cosas que recordar mientras se preparan para el primer día de clases:

• Recuerden que habrá desayunos y almuerzos gratis disponibles para todos los estudiantes, el primer día y todos los que le siguen. 
• Aprovéchense de los viajes gratis en la CTA y Metra que hay disponibles para todos los estudiantes, y sus acompañantes adultos, el primer día de clases. 

Manteniendo a las comunidades escolares saludables y seguras

Necesitamos su ayuda para mantener a nuestros estudiantes y personal saludables este año escolar. Primero, necesitamos que se aseguren de que sus estudiantes cumplan con los requisitos de salud mínimos del Distrito, incluidos todos los exámenes físicos y vacunas requeridas por el gobierno federal. Si tienen preguntas de salud o necesitan ayuda para inscribir a sus niños para que reciban beneficios, favor llamar a la línea directa Healthy CPS al (773) 553-KIDS (5437).  

En cuanto a nuestra respuesta al COVID-19, las CPS han actualizado sus políticas para que estén en consonancia con las pautas de salud actuales, que categorizan el COVID-19 como una enfermedad respiratoria a la par con la influenza y el virus respiratorio sincitial (RSV, según sus iniciales en inglés). Los estudiantes que den positivo para cualquiera de estas enfermedades deberían quedarse en el hogar hasta que estén sin fiebre sin el uso de medicamentos de reducción de fiebre por al menos veinticuatro horas, y hasta que los síntomas generales estén en mejoramiento. 

La Oficina de Bienestar y Salud Estudiantiles de las CPS (OSHW, según sus siglas en inglés) continuará dirigiendo los esfuerzos del Distrito en cuanto a toda la investigación, prevención, respuesta y control de enfermedades. Favor visitar nuestra página web sobre males respiratorios para información útil sobre cómo manejar estas enfermedades y mantener a sus familias seguras.
