All plumbing fixtures shall meet the CPS Master Specification Section 22 40 00, unless otherwise indicated by the project DM. All plumbing fixtures for Kitchens shall be provided by CPS Nutrition Support Services, along with the fixtures and equipment layouts.
Refer to Room Data Sheets for plumbing fixture requirements for each particular space.
Verify that all ADA fixtures are properly labeled and coordinated with Architectural plans. If there is any ambiguity in requirements, the ADA approved fixture shall be used.
For any specialty fixtures needed for a project, fixtures shall either be provided by your DM or selected by the AOR/ EOR for CPS approval. On LEED and other projects that require achieving greater reduction in water usage and energy efficiency, fixtures may be proposed by the AOR/EOR to achieve this goal, as long as the specifications meet or exceed the CPS Master Specifications.
Fixtures shall be selected to reduce aggregate water consumption by a minimum of 20% from a baseline using conventional fixtures. All newly installed toilets, urinals, lavatory faucets, and showerheads that are eligible for labeling shall be WaterSense labeled.
Do not exceed the following flush and flow rates:
Flush Fixtures
- Toilets: 1.28 gallons per flush
- Urinals: 0.125 gallons per flush
Flow Fixtures
- Public Lavatories: 0.5 gallons per minute
- Kitchen Sinks: 2.25 gallons per minute
- Showers: 1.5 gallons per minute
- All dishwashers shall be Energy Star certified.
Meet the LEED v4 requirements for commercial washing machines and other commercial kitchen equipment. All newly installed drinking fountains shall be designed for (1) water bottle-filling per fixture group.
Emergency safety fixtures shall be used in all spaces where required by Code. These include all Science Classrooms, Shop areas, and other specialty spaces.
These emergency safety fixtures include Emergency Eyewashes and Emergency Shower/Eyewash Combination Units. All emergency fixtures shall be ADA compliant and easily accessible to both teachers and students. Deck or island mounted eyewash stations are not allowed.
Where Emergency Showers are used, a floor drain shall be included for drainage. All emergency showers shall be monitored by the BAS. Coordinate with mechanical drawings.
Emergency fixtures shall receive water at tepid temperature. Tempering valves serving the emergency fixtures shall be provided within a locked cabinet adjacent to the fixture for testing and calibration. The valves shall be rated for emergency fixture use and rated for OSHA required flow rates.
Branch water piping serving the Emergency Shower shall be sized at a minimum of 1-¼” hot and cold to minimize pressure drop and to ensure OSHA required flow rates can be met at the fixture even if hot water supply fails. For renovation projects, where new emergency showers are added to existing spaces, EOR shall verify location of the nearest available 1-¼” hot and cold water supply piping, and indicate point of connection of new piping serving the fixture to existing piping.
Emergency fixtures shall not be served through isolation valves that are accessible to unauthorized staff. These include valves that are typically provided at the teacher’s demonstration table for the purpose of shutting off water to classroom sinks.
