4.3.4 Faculty Work Rooms

Planning Rationale

Faculty Work Rooms are spaces for teachers to prep for classes, collaborate with other staff and store belongings. One Faculty Workroom within each school shall be designated as a Faculty Lounge which shall include a kitchenette space in lieu of lockers.

Design Considerations

Location

Provide a minimum of one Work Room per classroom floor. These Work Rooms shall be located near classrooms and teaching spaces for easy faculty access. Ideally, the Faculty Lounge will be located on the 2nd floor (or middle floor) for easy access from all levels. Doors into the Workroom/Lounge to have vision glass to ensure maximum supervision of corridors.

Program Adjacencies

A student printer is to be located near or adjacent to the Work Room/Lounge within a niche off of the main corridor. Proximity of this printer to the staff lounge allows for passive supervision of the printer.

Flexibility

As a defense against overcrowding, this room shall have infrastructure that would allow transformation to a standard classroom with minimal modification.
