Chicago Public Schools include facilities which may date to the early 1900’s and are not sprinklered. The CPS standard is to sprinkler new construction projects, annexes, and additions. These Design Guidelines address the Fire Protection of our buildings.

8.1.2 Philosophy and Goals

The overall design philosophy for the Chicago Public School Fire Protection Systems is to provide an efficiently designed, Code compliant fire suppression system that provides safety from the spread of fire. All new CPS Facilities shall be provided with an automatic sprinkler system. Renovation work shall be carefully evaluated to determine fire protection requirements.
