Special Education Guidance for Diverse Learners

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is committed to supporting our diverse learners, their families, and school communities throughout the remote learning period.

The CPS Office of Diverse Learner Supports and Services (ODLSS) released targeted special education guidance to outline remote learning procedures, standards, and instructional resources in alignment with the Illinois State Board of Education. To ensure we are meeting every student’s unique needs, ODLSS will support each school as they develop and implement individual remote learning plans for students with an IEP or 504 Plan.

The ODLSS remote learning plan is designed to meet the following goals:

  • Continue supporting students’ needs based on their current Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Support collaboration between families and educators to continue developing students’ IEPs.
  • Provide students with direct special education support and resources.
  • Minimize instructional loss.
  • Provide routines and structures to help students stay engaged and connected while at home.
  • Attend to our students’ social and emotional needs.

ODLSS has also developed enrichment learning packets to help students continue learning at home. These packets are available at cps.edu/remotelearningpackets.
