Department of Student Voice & Engagement (DSVE)

Located within the Office of Teaching and Learning, the Department of Student Voice & Engagement (DSVE) leads the district's inclusive and responsive education strategy that aims to ensure all aspects of schooling in CPS are inclusive of and responsive to the lived experiences of students, and includes young people as key stakeholders in making decisions that impact them.

The core work of our department is organized around four strands:

Student Voice & Engagement

Student Voice & Leadership

  • Expand and strengthen Student Voice Committees (SVC’s) through professional development and student voice convenings
  • Partner with the Board of Education and relevant CPS offices to inform district policy and plans

Inclusive & Responsive Education

  • Provide training and development for educators and leaders in operationalizing the CPS instructional core through a focus on strengthening Learning Conditions and the daily student experience
  • Support schools, educators, teams, and diverse offices in strengthening youth adult partnerships to include authentic student voice and leadership

Project Based Learning & Service Learning Projects

  • Provide professional development to support Culturally Responsive Project Based Learning
  • Guidance for Service Learning Coordinators and schools responsible for ensuring students meet the High School Service Learning Project requirement 

Financial Education

  • Training and support for educators responsible for ensuring students meet the state Financial Education requirement. 
  • Training and support for educators piloting financial literacy curriculum for elementary students in grades K-8
