Expo showcases school options

Parents, students gather at Soldier Field to learn about Chicago’s new schools.

March 03, 2009

With more than 90 campuses represented, the New Schools Expo offered one-stop-shopping for students and parents interested in learning about Chicago’s newest education options, including charter and Renaissance 2010 schools. Renaissance 2010 is Mayor Daley’s initiative to open 100 new public schools in Chicago by the year 2010.

On January 31 at Soldier Field, families had the opportunity to mingle with and learn from new school leaders and current students as they explored informational booths set up by each school.  They also participated in workshops that detailed the types of Renaissance 2010 schools, gave tips on choosing a new school, and explained special education in new schools. An application assistance area was set up so that interested students could apply for schools on site.

Many new schools are still accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year. Contact the schools directly for the most accurate and up-to-date application information. A list of all the new schools and their contact information is available online.
