Hearing screenings and exams must be completed by students in the grade levels or groups listed below:
- Second grade
- Eighth grade
- Students new to the District
- Students receiving special education services
CPS has certified hearing technicians on hand at each school to provide hearing screenings. Test results are provided to the parent only if follow up is required.
Additional services are provided for students who fail their hearing screenings. CPS works with several clinics across the City that will provide students with a complete hearing test by a team of audiologists at no additional cost. Parents/guardians must call to set up an appointment.
Child Find or Early Intervention Audiology Clinics take place at four schools throughout the city. Students who have failed hearing screenings as well as students new to the District can visit any of our clinics to receive additional services.
Students visiting a clinic must be currently enrolled at a Chicago public school. Please have your child’s CPS identification number ready at the time the appointment is made. Test results and recommendations will be shared with the parents/guardians and the child's school. View our clinics for students aged 3 - 5 years and students aged 5 years and older.
