Safety and Security

The safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority. We provide CPS Security staff a comprehensive training program following the guidelines established by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations. The training is designed to provide critical information necessary for the proper performance of security duties in Chicago public schools and facilities.

Security personnel trained in best practices are better prepared to recognize the potential for violence, able to intercede to prevent violence and to respond to emergencies should they occur. Full-time employees in securities capabilities at CPS must complete 20 hours of initial training and 20 hours of staff development annually. Parent workers must also complete security training. You can also learn more about some current initiaves for Safety and Security.
