Specialty Program Site Conditions

The Specialty Program Site Conditions questions are asked annually of staff and family of schools with programs including Fine and Performing Arts, Gifted, Classical, International Baccalaureate, Personalized Learning, Montessori, STE(A)M, and STEM. This year, 179 schools will receive summaries of their community's responses that will provide insights about the statuses of their programs. Central Office will also use trends to inform professional learning topics to support practitioners, and determine schools that are eligible to apply for exemplary program status.

Academic Calendars

Over 10,000 people responded to the Academic Calendar portion of the CPS Fall Survey. They generally agreed that getting two years of calendars approved at a time was a good idea. The calendars respondents like most start two weeks before Labor day, give the full week off for Thanksgiving break, and try to maintain consistent times of year for spring break. There was also strong support for starting after Labor day and for keeping spring break aligned with the Semester 2 mid-point. These preferences will inform what CPS proposes to the Board and how the Board votes. Final calendars await board approval.

Volunteer Policy

The Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) is currently synthesizing feedback from recent virtual and in-person focus groups, alongside data from a district-wide survey. This comprehensive stakeholder input, analyzed in partnership with the Data Analysis team, serves as the foundation for potential policy updates. Our goal is to ensure that any revisions to the Volunteer Policy reflects current law, research, and a steadfast commitment to equity.
