School leaders, teachers and staff need to excel in their individual work and work well as a team to help every child succeed. CPS knows that principals play a critical role in the academic success of all students. That is why CPS has made it a top priority to place a high-performing principal in every school.
The District addresses principal quality throughout the school system by using the Illinois Performance Standards for School Leaders to measure principal success. Most importantly, the District evaluates principals to ensure their accountability for student growth and achievement. The new system reflects CPS' efforts to create an aligned evaluation system for all employees.
Principal Evaluation fits within Pillar 4 of the District's Framework for Success. Pillar 4 also includes strategies to support "Committed and Effective Teachers, Leaders and Staff:”

Goals of Pillar 4 include recruiting talented principals, providing leadership training, empowering high-performing school leaders and utilizing a standards-based principal evaluation system
