LSC Kick-Off Event
Join us to kick-off LSC election season at our virtual event on October 18 at. Register by October 17 to secure your spot.
Parents, teachers, non-teaching staff, students, and community members are invited to learn more about running for their local school LSC for the next term of office. Discover the benefits of joining an LSC and gain insight into the motivations driving our dedicated LSC members. You will also learn how you can be the change you wish to see in our schools and impact our educational community.
Application Instructions
Please note, the nomination period for the 2024 LSC Election ended on February 14, 2024. No new nominations will be accepted. After July 1, you may apply to fill a vacancy at your school.
1. Check Your Eligibility
Parents, community members, students, principals and school staff may all serve on LSCs. Criteria for eligibility depends on member type.
- Parent member candidates must have a child enrolled in the school
- Community member candidates must reside within the school's attendance area or voting district (for city-wide enrollment schools)
- School staff member candidates must be assigned to perform a majority of their work duties at the school.
2. Find Your LSC
View the 2024 LSC Election Map to find seats that you are eligible to run for in the upcoming election. The map will display school boundaries to help you locate schools where you may be eligible to serve. You must live within a school’s attendance boundary to apply for LSC membership as a community member. You may apply for LSC membership as a parent at the school your child attends.
3. Complete the Nomination Forms
Once you have identified an LSC election that you are eligible to run in, complete the nomination forms listed below. Please note which forms are required and optional for your candidate member type (parent and community candidate, student candidate, staff candidate).
4. Submit Your Nomination Forms
You or a representative must file your nomination forms by 3:00 p.m., February 14, 2024. You may file your nomination forms at one of the following locations:
- in person at the school where you seek to serve
- Office of Local School Council Relations, 2651 West Washington Blvd., 3 rd Floor
Mailed, e-mailed, faxed or copied forms will NOT be accepted.
Candidates for parent representative or community representative, or their representative, must also present two forms of identification to establish their eligibility to run and serve as LSC members. Examples of acceptable forms of identification include:
- Driver’s License
- State of Illinois ID
- Voter Registration Card
- MediPlan/Medicaid Card
- IDPA Card
- Permanent Resident Card
- Matrícula Consular
- Student ID
- Public Library Card
- Other Governmental Agency I.D.
- Current Lease
- Current Utility Bill
- Credit or Debit Card
- Employment ID
- Court Documents
5. Attend a Candidate Forum
Following the nomination period, candidates will have an opportunity to attend a Candidate Forum at the school between March 11 and March 19, 2024. (Please ask the principal for the exact date and time.)
Candidates will also have the opportunity to have the school distribute campaign literature to parents on Campaign Literature Distribution Day on April 4, 2024. To do so, school staff candidates must submit their literature by 3:00 p.m., March 22, 2024. Parent and community candidates must submit their literature, in sets of 35 or as directed by the school, by 3:00 p.m., March 22, 2024. An LSC Election Guide, including election rules and procedures, is available for review in the school’s main office.
