The Department of Student Assessment and MTSS empowers all CPS stakeholders with high-quality evidence of student learning to advance achievement, access, and opportunity for all students. The department supports schools in the development and implementation of balanced assessment systems and a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Framework that enables educators to meet students' needs.

Responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing district pre-K through 12th grade assessment strategy
  • Assisting schools in building an assessment strategy
  • Advising on adoption of assessments
  • Coordinating the logistics, training, and communication of centralized large-scale assessments
  • Leading the development of district assessments
  • Managing federal, state, and district testing initiatives
  • Providing accurate and timely information regarding testing purposes, procedures, and results
  • Providing guidance on the appropriate use of assessment results for systems of accountability and opportunity
