Free Meals Available For Students All Summer

LunchStop Program to provide free, healthy summer meals

July 01, 2016

To help ensure that children eat healthy during the summer, CPS LunchStop program serves free, healthy meals in a fun and familiar environment. From Monday, June 27th through Friday, August 26, LunchStop will be serving free breakfast and lunch outdoors at 50 school locations.

With the school year at an end, summer meals become increasingly important. Federally funded school meals provided through the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch programs provide a key source of nutrition for students during the school year, but summer break can mean that children are left without adequate access to food.

LunchStop served approximately 82,000 meals in 2015. CPS' goal is to increase that number to 98,000 in summer 2016. Children need not be CPS students to receive free meals, however meal times do vary by site.
