Congratulations to Charles P. Steinmetz Academic Centre High School junior Kaylee Sherrod for winning first place in the Chicago Farmers Market Reusable Bag Design Contest, sponsored by the City of Chicago and COUNTRY Financial. The winning design was announced today at the kickoff of the 33rd annual farmers market season at Daley Plaza.
Chicago's Farmers Markets bring more than 70 vendors selling fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers to neighborhoods all over the City of Chicago. For a complete listing of farmers markets both in downtown and throughout Chicago neighborhoods, as well as a guide to buying what’s fresh and in season, visit this page.
Kaylee’s design will be featured on thousands of reusable shopping bags that will be distributed at farmers markets all over the city throughout the summer. She also was awarded $1,000 scholarship.
Kaylee explained, “I got my inspiration from looking at the Picasso statue and realizing that the head looked like an apple core. The statue is really pretty, and I made my design out of fruit to show Chicago’s beauty and make it about farmers markets. I’m really happy that so many people are going to see my design, and I’m hoping it will look good on my applications for art schools next year!”
Great job, Kaylee!
