Jones Makes the Grade

Over 100 Chicago Public Schools make the Illinois Honor Roll

March 02, 2011

Jones College Prep High School was one of 103 CPS schools to be named to the Illinois Honor Roll by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). Interim CPS CEO Terry Mazany was joined by Illinois State Superintendent Christopher Koch at an event held at Jones recognizing the schools that were named to the Illinois Honor Roll this year.

Jones was recognized with the Spotlight and Academic Excellence awards, both of which are components of the state Honor Roll, and for its academic achievements in consistently earning a place in the Illinois Honor Roll. Since 2003, Jones has earned more Honor Roll awards that any other school in the state. Vanderpoel Elementary Magnet School was also awarded both the Spotlight and Academic Excellence awards. Only five schools in the entire state were awarded both.

"These Honor Roll schools continue to prove that hard work and reform efforts impact student achievement even as the bar to making Adequate Yearly Progress grows higher," said State Superintendent Christopher A. Koch. "We hope administrators, teachers, parents, students and community members can celebrate their local schools' success."

The Honor Roll highlights schools in three different areas
