Chicago Public Schools encourages everyone to join in recognizing National Green Week 2011, a sustainability education campaign, which begins February 7, 2011. CPS schools are encouraged to participate and may select any week from February 7 through April 22 (Earth Day) to engage students in environmental education and action.
There are many ways to participate in National Green Week, sponsored by Green Education Foundation (GEF). Schools can select one of GEF's eco-challenge activities, use an activity from the CPS Go Green website at www.cps.edu/GoGreen or create a new eco-activity. The objective is to spotlight environmental learning, whether a school-wide program or a simple lesson like a book reading to a class. Anyone can participate and support schools during National Green Week.
Last year, during National Green Week, GEF mobilized over two million children to participate in sustainability education programs and reduced trash by over 100,000 lbs. Join in teaching CPS students to be environmental stewards in their schools, homes and communities.
