The 2009-2010 school year was filled with amazing team and individual athletic achievements by Chicago Public School students. Last school year, over 60,000 CPS students were involved in team sports, which have positive benefits both on and off the field. Student participation in team sports can help improve student academic achievement, student health and well being, and also help develop important social skills among participants. CPS Congratulates all our teams’ hard work and dedication on the athletic field and in the classroom.
Along with numerous victories in CPS sports this school year, the Simeon Boys Basketball team was crowned Illinois State Champions. The Wolverines defeated fellow CPS school, Whitney Young, 51-36 in the Class 4A state championship.
Listed below are the city champions of fall, winter, and spring sports for the 2009-2010 seasons. Congratulations to all students who participated last year, and a special thanks to all the coaches and parents who made the 2009-2010 athletic year such a smashing success.
