Neighborhood

Every child residing in Chicago has a CPS neighborhood school. Families who explore their choices may find that their neighborhood school is the best choice – or that another neighborhood school has an interesting program open to students citywide.

Overview

Each neighborhood school has an attendance boundary. Generally, all students who live within this area may attend the school.

	Magnet cluster schools Magnet cluster schools specialize in a specific subject area, such as math and science, literature and writing, or world language. Transportation is not provided to magnet cluster schools.

	Open enrollment schools Open enrollment schools offer another option to parents and students who are interested in schools outside their neighborhood.

Acceptance criteria

For Open enrollment schools:

Students who live within the attendance boundary do not need to submit an application.
Out-of-attendance area students may apply and will be randomly accepted for available spaces through a computerized lottery.

For Magnet cluster schools:

Students who live within the attendance boundary do not need to submit an application to that school, unless they are applying to a program that requires testing.
Out-of-attendance area students may apply and will be randomly accepted for available spaces through a computerized lottery.
