Child parent center

The Child-Parent Center (CPC) program provides services to preschool children and their parents residing in primarily low income neighborhoods and elementary schools. CPC programs are primarily Title 1 funded early childhood programs. Each CPC has a collaborative team that work together to ensure high academic rigor, family support services and community partnerships. The collaborative team consists of a Head Teacher, a Parent Resource Teacher and a School Community Representative. Parents are encouraged to enroll children at age three.

The program uses best practices to provide comprehensive educational services for children, including early intervention. Additionally, the CPC program offers many services to support the entire family to ensure success for each family member. In order to foster the success of all families, parent participation is required weekly throughout the school year.

  • The Child Parent Centers use the Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum for Preschool is an award-winning curriculum for preschool success. It enables children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills and is based on 38 objectives for development and learning.

  • CPC requires 2.5 hours of parent involvement weekly. Parents sign a School-Home agreement at the time of registration agreeing to participate at least 2.5 hours each week. These hours can be a combination of both in school parent activities or at home activities.

  • The Parent Resource Teacher provides a menu-based parent involvement plan designed around parent needs and interests. The six areas of interest are: (1) child development and parenting, (2) health, safety, and nutrition, (3) school involvement, (4) language, math, & science, (5) field experiences and community resources, and (6) education, career, and personal development.
