Course Catalog

The School Support Center uses CPS University to allow you to view our courses and register for them. When you navigate to HR4U, you will be prompted to login. Use your CPS credentials to login. Then, you can access CPS University by clicking the CPS University link at the left of your screen.

You can view all of the SSC's courses by browsing the CPS University catalog. You will see School Support Center listed as a category. When you select a catalog item, you will be able to view the associated activities and enroll. These instructions really aren't necessary; you'll find CPS University to be very user-friendly. If you have any questions or concerns about our courses, please contact your School Support Center, and they will be more than happy to assist you.

We offer the following courses:

 

Budget 101: Managing School Budgets
This course will introduce you to the many aspects of how to access, read, and understand your budget. You will learn the basics of budgeting, executing budget transfers, and other key budgeting functionalities within Oracle. This course is interactive and will provide hands-on exercises that will allow you to work within your budget. Course Duration: 3 hours.

This course is a prerequisite for Budget 102: Managing Positions with Position Control as well as Budget 103: Managing Your Positions Discretionary Funds.

Budget 102: Managing Positions with Position Control
In this course you will obtain extensive knowledge on using Oracle Position Control to manage positions, buckets, and other key functions. You will also learn how to complete transactions in Oracle including the procedures to open, close, and adjust positions; create, update, and close buckets; track positions and bucket transactions in workflow; view notifications; and monitor bucket spending wisely. This course is interactive and will provide hands-on class exercises. Course Duration: 3 hours.

Prerequisite: Budget 101: Managing School Budgets

Budget 103: Managing Your Positions Discretionary Funds
This course will help you to better understand the appropriate use of your discretionary funds (SGSA, NCLB and College Ready). In addition, you will learn the proper amendment and budget process. This course is interactive and will provide case study and hands-on exercises that will ensure compliance when allocating and disbursing discretionary dollars. Course Duration: 3 hours.

Prerequisite: Budget 101: Managing School Budgets

Procurement 101: Procurement Certification
This course will define stringing and its consequences, review common purchasing terminology, discuss the parameters you are responsible for knowing if purchasing OFF contract, and emphasize the benefits of ON contract spending with Strategic Source Vendors. Course Duration: 1.5 hours.

Internal Accounts 101: Internal Controls
This course will define stringing and its consequences, review common purchasing terminology, discuss the parameters you are responsible for knowing if purchasing OFF contract, and emphasize the benefits of ON contract spending with Strategic Source Vendors. Course Duration: 1.5 hours.

IAMS 101: Internal Accounts Management System
This course will provide an overview of the Internal Accounts Management System (IAMS) which is the designated financial management tool used by all Chicago Public Schools. During this interactive course, you will complete step by step exercises to process receipts, deposits, disbursements and book transfers efficiently. You will learn the policies and procedures to process vendor payments to ensure compliance. Course Duration: 4 hours.

This course will help you to become knowledgeable about the procurement procedures and policies within CPS, to understand your role in managing purchasing at your school, learn about strategic source vendors, navigating the Marketplace, and also to learn about the most common issues that typically rise and how to avoid them. Internal Accounts 101: Internal Controls
This course will help you understand fundamental policies and procedures related to managing your school's internal accounts. This course will include basic financial management principles, CPS guidelines pertaining to your checking account, how to complete and maintain necessary documentation, and overall best practices to help you avoid common audit exceptions. Course Duration: 3 hours.
