The YES Scholars initiative is a free transition program that provides the support incoming 9th grade students need to succeed in high school and beyond.
YES Scholars equips students with the tools to excel academically and help students develop the adult and peer relationships needed for support on the path to graduation. It offers after-school programming focused on skill development, school preparedness, career exploration, individualized mentorship and advocacy services to target students. Program participants engage in exclusive activities and trips, develop their own abilities and voice, and qualify for special rewards and recognition.
The YES Scholars initiative aims to increase the 9th grade on-track rate, improve attendance, reduce youth involvement in gangs and violent crime and improve the employment and education outcomes for at-risk youth.
- A dedicated transition specialist guides, monitors and supports targeted freshmen as they transition from 8th grade into high school.
- Program participants receive help in navigating school challenges and links to wrap-around services.
- The program engages parents and families in students’ education.
- Eligible Scholars earn rewards, gift cards and a paid virtual internship at their school.
The YES Scholars program is available at the following high schools: Crane, Dyett and Fenger.
Students are eligible to enroll in the program at the beginning of the school year. They may contact the YES Scholars Student Engagement Specialists in their School for more information on how to enroll.
