CPS virtual high schools (CPS-VHS) offer more than 120 rigorous, but flexible online middle and high school courses (core, credit recovery or electives). These courses supplement local school offerings and help students achieve course credit toward graduation. CPS-VHS courses range from introductory to advanced and cover a wide variety of subjects including English, mathematics, science, history and foreign languages.
Goals
CPS-VHS courses enable students to:
-
Fulfill or recover core and elective requirements
-
Gain access to courses not offered at their local school
-
Take Advanced Placement (AP) courses
-
Review for AP exam preparation
-
Strengthen communication, collaboration and technical skills needed for long-term success in life
Program benefits
Since its inception in 2002, the CPS-VHS program has served more than 6,500 students and maintained a student completion and success rate between 75 and 80 percent. With online access to courses available 24/7, CPS-VHS allows students to work at their own pace and caters to their individual needs so that they can remain or get back on-track to graduation. To meet the expanding needs of students, various course providers are used including the Illinois Virtual High School, Apex Learning, Aventa Learning and Florida Virtual School.
Enrollment
All students currently enrolled may access CPS-VHS courses with approval from their local schools. For enrollment information, contact your child’s local school counselor, a CPS-VHS coordinator or mentor, or the CPS-VHS Program Manager.
