Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), Chicago Public Schools is required to provide students at our lowest performing schools with the option to transfer into another school.
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) measures the performance of each school in reading and math and determines whether the school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Schools that do not make AYP for at least two years in a row are designated as “School Improvement” schools under NCLB.
NCLB states that students attending select elementary schools or select high schools have the right to apply to transfer to another select group of schools that is not currently involved in School Improvement.
Transfer process
If your child is currently enrolled at one of these elementary or high schools you can apply to transfer to another school. Applications must be submitted by July 31. Learn more about the transfer process for each grade level below.
