Overview
Teacher for a Day (TFAD) is a joint venture between the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union to give business and community members a better understanding of the work Chicago Public Schools’ teachers do each day.
The event allows individuals a glimpse into the classroom to see firsthand what it takes to be a CPS teacher. Participants are individuals in a business, civic or community organization that have an interest in education and students, a commitment to civic engagement, and who is a role model appropriate for CPS students. This program is intended for people who are not already deeply involved with a school or who have been teachers.
Goals
- Implement continuous involvement with TFAD and the school by doing at least two activities a year
Program benefits
- Expose students to new speakers and/or field trip opportunities
- Enlist the help of volunteers
- Meet the needs of classrooms through monetary means or through donations, equipment and supplies
- Broader understanding of the work of a CPS teacher
