After School Matters

Overview

After School Matters (ASM) offers students hands-on career experience and job training. Students can take part in arts, sports, technology, communications and science programs. With determination and good attendance, students can move up the ASM ladder of opportunity from Club37 programs to pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, advanced apprenticeships and internships.

Goals

  • Partner with neighborhood and community resources
  • Align and maximize neighborhood physical and programmatic resources
  • Mobilize creative, coordinated and sustainable investment in teens
  • Cultivate leadership, support career development and acknowledge achievement
  • Foster a caring, creative and dynamic work environment

Program benefits

  • Cultivate leadership skills
  • Gain useful and marketable job-training skills
  • Expose students to career opportunities that previously may have seemed out of reach
  • Foster creativity

Resources

Students need to believe they have a future, and parents need to help them get there. ASM creates a network of out-of-school opportunities for teens in underserved communities. Through ASM programs, teens can safely take part in activities that offer positive relationships, skills that translate into the workplace, and exposure to career and educational opportunities throughout the city.
