"Let me win.....but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt," that is the oath of Special Olympics. Special Olympics is an international movement that works to empower young people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities through the joy of sport. Chicago can boast with pride that Special Olympics was founded here in 1968, so it's no surprise that CPS enthusiastically supports the program. The district has over 2,500 students participating in Special Olympics, and its athletes represent more than 125 schools that compete regularly throughout the city. Special Olympics teach discipline and commitment, and give students the opportunity to build self-esteem and create friendships that last a lifetime.
